Where do you get your ideas?

They're everywhere. Anything can set off a chain of thoughts that leads to an image. Some of my drawings have a specific source, such as a song, but most of them are collections of bits from all over

Who are your favorite artists?

I am influenced a lot by Virgil Finlay, Erte, Frazetta, Michaelangelo and Charles Bragg. I like an awful lot of different artists and styles. I was on a Roger Dean kick for a while, then I went to Vermeer. One can never look at too much art. I learned a lot about drawing eyes from Durer, and about hands from Mucha.

Did you go to art school?

I got a degree in Fine Art at a University, but I don't recommend it. Formal training is good for the technical stuff, but won't make you more creative.

Any advice for beginning artists?

Take some business classes. Remember, when you are dealing with a publisher or gallery, you are not doing art, you are doing business. And, don't wait until you are "good enough" to start marketing your work. Start now, and when your work improves, you will already know all you need to sell it.

Some of your images make me think you are [Lesbian/Satanist/ Druggie/Whatever] Are you?

Probably. Drop by the studio some time, and we'll discuss it. Just keep in mind that I consider questions about one's sexual preference to be flirting.

How long have you been drawing?
45 years

You do colored pencil drawings, paintings, paper mache, ink, sculpture, vectors and photography. Is there anything you don't do?

I don’t sew.
